Boils are a condition that are extremely unpleasant and also involve extreme pain along with inflammation in a specific area of the skin's surface. They are caused by extremely infectious bacteria known as staphylococcus which upon contact with a wound, for instance can begin formation of a boil. Generally, the process of mature swollen boil filling with pus takes around seven days after which it gets drained from the boil.
Pus is a liquid formed in the boil and it shouldn't be touched with bare hands as it can lead to further infection in the body. There are various types of boils that can occur on the skin. All boils start as a red patches on the skin and ultimately grow in size. All boils get filled with pus which denotes that the body is fighting back. There are specific names given to different types of boils in the field of medicine and let's look what they are known as. Types of Boils Carbuncles Carbuncles symptoms are the most common in skin boils. When the bacteria, staphylococcus aurous, enter the hair follicles or sweat glands, carbuncles are formed. They can also enter the body and breed there if you have any scrapes and cuts. You can have one or more openings in the affected area due to these skin boils and at times in extreme cases, you also tend to develop a fever or a chill. Furuncles An infection in the hair follicle results into the occurrence of furuncles. They're not restricted to any particular part of the body; however, they mostly occur on the neck, face, buttocks, thighs, and underarm. They don't appear that often on ears and nose and they can also spread and cause carbuncles that are deeper infections Hidradenitis Suppurativa It's a condition that occurs when several skin boils form in the groin area or beneath the arm pits. Local inflammation of the sweat glands results in the formation of these boils. You might also need to have a surgery if the condition becomes too severe. During surgery, the sweat glands in the area would be removed by the doctor, so that the skin boils don't reoccur. Pilonidal Cysts These boils or cysts are generally due to prolonged periods of sitting and occur mainly in the crease of your buttocks. These skin boils generally start off as a small, infected area near the follicles of the skin. They grow bigger and firmer over a period of time and would probably cause you severe pain that could prevent you from sitting. For these skin boils to heal, you'd need to have the outer shell removed by the doctor. Cystic Acne A clog or plug in your hair follicle leads to the formation of cystic acne. A cyst can be caused due to surplus oil in the skin that can catch bacteria and dirt. Cystic acne is not similar to pimples or regular acne and affects skin tissue at a much deeper level.
