Recurring Boils
Boils are actually skin abscesses that occur due to the infection caused by a type of bacterium named Staphylococcus aureus. The boils can be very painful if they are left untreated and have been allowed the infection to grow and aggravate further. Boils can easily be eradicated by the immune system of our body. But if you find that you are suffering from recurring boils or repeated attacks of boils then you must immediately consult a doctor as continual attack of boils can be the indication of the occurrence of any immune degrading disease.
Recurring Boils Causes
There can be several causes behind the repeated attacks of boils. You may take a note of the following reasons responsible for the occurrence of recurring boils.
- The damaged skin surface favors occurrence of recurring boils. The skin surface that is exposed to the constant incidence of various skin diseases like eczema and scabies. The skin that is susceptible to the skin diseases is also prone to the development of boils.
- Another very important cause behind recurring boils is obesity. Obesity leads to unbalanced metabolic processes that influence the development of boils at a repeated pace.
- Patients suffering from poor immune system are often prone to persistent boil formation. Our body has the natural ability to fight against the bacteria causing boils. In fact, the pus that we find at the middle or head of the boils is the result of the white blood cells that are responsible for fighting against germs. Those who have a weak immune system get attacked with recurring boils, as their body is too weak to fight against the infectious bacteria.
- If you are in general a physically weak person and often stay unwell on a regular basis, you are most likely to be suffering from the incidence of boils recurrently.
- Boils are also a cause of genetic transference from one generation to another.
Boils generally occur in the places that have highly developed sweat glands like the armpits, the groin region and the facial areas. They even occur in the neck region, back and the areas of buttocks mainly along the cleft. Recurring boils mainly occur in the regions of face and region along the spine. Sometimes spine abscesses or boils occurring in the spine are quite harmful and even threatening if not taken under immediate supervision.
Patients of diabetes and HIV positive often are the victims of recurring boils. It is because the nasal chambers of such patients have colonies of the bacteria that cause the boil. So, even after recovering from one single attack of boil the skin develops another boil and the process continues as the skin gets easily infected by the bacteria that is present in large numbers inside the body itself.
Heredity plays another very important factor for development of boils. People who get repeated attacks of boils are often studied to be carrying the genes that are susceptible to the formation of boils. Such individuals might be physically healthy and may not be detected with any system malfunction but he can be genetically carrying the Staphylococcus bacteria along with him harmlessly that live on the carrier’s skin.
IF you are suffering from the difficult problem of being infected with recurrent boils, you should visit a doctor for effective treatment. He would then culture the pus flowing out of the boil to determine which antibiotic would help to reduce the incidence of recurring boils. He would also make a check up in order to be aware of any favorable condition leading to the development of boils from time to time like diabetes, suffering from low white blood cell count and other such illness that damages the immune system. Apart from consulting a doctor you may also try out the following remedial steps to control the occurrence of boils.
Recurring Boils Treatment
- Take a good shower in the very early morning as well as in the night before going to bed for sleep.
- Throughout the day time to time cleaning of hand is also required as touching of the existing boils with unclean hands may lead to cropping up of more number of boils. You should preferably wash your hands with a good antibacterial soap like Hibiclens, having around 4% of chlorhexidine.
- Much importance is given to keeping the hands clean and germ free as the staph bacteria can easily be transferred to other body parts through hands. The bacteria often stay back inside the nails of the fingers when the person makes a small scratch, itch or attempt to squeeze. So, you must avoid scratching the infected area to avoid the spread of boils.
- You are advised to change your pillow covers, bed sheet with washed ones every day. Always wear washed clothes. It is always recommended to do all your washing with hot water, as the germs would be killed in high temperature.
- As mentioned earlier that one of the causes of getting infected with boils again and again is the existence of the bacteria inside the nasal chamber of the patient. So, under such circumstances you are advised to apply a solution of Bactroban containing mupirocin twice daily on your nose around your nasal chamber.
- Cover your infected boil area properly. The flowing pus should be cleaned at regular intervals with medicated cotton or sterilized clean piece of cloth. You may take the help of a medical professional while dressing the affected area.
Recurrent boils can often be the result of stress. So, to stay away from stress you may perform a daily schedule of yoga and some mild stretching exercises. You may look out for methods of relaxation like yoga and meditation to keep your mind free from stress. Eat green vegetables and fresh fruits to remove the toxic substances from your body. Drink fruit juice and do not indulge in eating food items that are made up of unknown ingredients and chemicals, as most of them are toxic in nature. So, by taking up a healthy diet you should strengthen your immune system that would help you to fight against germs causing recurrent boils.
