MRSA
The term MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Initially the germ was known to be resistant towards the antibiotic methicillin but now a days the term denotes the germ causing skin infection to be completely resistant to any common type of antibiotic taken up to get rid of infection. The germ commonly thrives in places like hospitals, nursing homes and such. At home the bacterial germ is found in the bed sheets and bed linens as well. The source of the germs can also be human beings who carry them on their skin surfaces, nasal chambers, groin regions, and other folds of the body. The MRSA can cause infection in the skin by entering the epidermal layer through any wound or skin opening. Individuals suffering from this form of bacterial attack are subjected to continued development of skin infections even after taking up antibiotics. Many a times the broad spectrum antibiotics are not able to cure the infection. The MRSA germs are actually divided into two main categories, Health Care Associated MRSA or HAMRSA and Community Associated MRSA or CAMRSA. Types of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus HAMRSA – HAMRSA attacks individuals who have undergone surgical operation. The bacterium mainly thrives in hospitals and the individuals, who have recently been operated, are highly prone towards getting in contact with the infection. The health care staph infections are mainly sourced from the unhealthy environments in hospitals. CAMRSA- The community associated MRSA are not related to unhealthy individuals who have lately been treated in a hospital. The germ in fact is found in individuals who are otherwise healthy and are not affected by any form of internal disorder. Many individuals carry the CAMRSA germs within their skin itself. Such persons actually have genetically transferred characters that are responsible for the growth of the bacteria on the very skin surface. The infection is also prevalent among athletes who are in the habit of sharing objects like towels, razors and such. Military personnel and persons who get tattoos on their skin are also prone to the attack of the infection. The rate of individuals falling prey to the community associated with MRSA is increasing day by day. Symptoms of MRSA The following are some symptoms mentioned that would help you to detect infection caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus.
Staph skin infections that are especially of the type MRSA are quite difficult to treat. The germs can not be eradicated by intake of antibiotics that are generally taken up for treating infections. After performing repeated experiments the scientists have been able to invent some medicines that are effective enough to eradicate the germs. The medicines that are commonly taken up for treating MRSA infections are Clindamycin, Linezolid or Zyvox, Tetracycline or doxycycline, Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole containing ingredients like bactrim, bactrim DS, Septra, Septra DS and such. You are recommended to take up the antibiotic medicines only if your are prescribed by a certified doctor. Many of the medicines may not be effective for you or may cause harmful side effects like losing child bearing capacity. So, make sure of taking up the medicines after you have undergone a series of medical tests to determine the right antibiotic ideal for your body. You must also make sure of completing the entire dosage even if you find yourself to be cured of the infection. Many a times due to incomplete dosage of antibiotics the bacteria may become further resistant toward the medicine and as a result of which your infection may go to a stage where it can never be cured. An MRSA patient can also be admitted to a hospital for treating the disease. The treatment includes injecting of fluids and medicines directly to the veins, kidney dialysis in case of kidney failure and provision of oxygen.
