MRSA Treatment

The number of patients being affected by MRSA treatment is increasing day after day. Within the last 10 years the bacterial infection has turned into an endemic disease. The MRSA claims almost 18,000 lives each year. The reason behind the development of MRSA is not yet clinically determined but scientists opine that the primary cause behind the growth of MRSA is indiscriminate use and abuse of drugs by patients and drug addicts respectively. The bacteria causing chronic skin diseases have become resistant to antibiotics that are generally taken to cure bacterial skin diseases. In fact, doctors are left with very less opportunity for MRSA treatment.

According to the data reported by CDC or Centers for Disease Control more people die out of MRSA infection than AIDS. The MRSA has turned to be an endemic one as it can easily spread from one individual to another under direct contact. Almost 30% of the population are said to be carrying the bacterial germ with them unknowingly as the bacteria may not turn out to be harmful unless it enters inside the body through any skin opening or any form of wound. The reason behind carrying the MRSA germs with oneself may be traced back to the phenomenon of genetic transference. Many individuals carry the germs thriving on his or her skin from the very time of birth.

Scientists are now trying to find out effective methods of MRSA treatment in order to fight against the MRSA invasion. In earlier days honey was used as an effective remedy for skin infections. Later on with medical improvement antibiotics replaced honey for skin treatment. Due to years of intake of antibiotics the bacteria has grown resistant towards the medicines and no more can be eradicated with the aid of antibiotic medication.

Clinical studies have now again shifted their focus on honey taken to be an effective remedial agent for MRSA treatment. A very potent honey from New Zealand has been studied to have potential anti inflammatory agents useful for treating infected wound. The honey has the capacity to reduce inflammations, heal the wound and help in cell regeneration and removal of scars left by the infection after healing. The following are some information on the honey having medicinal properties ideal for MRSA treatment.

Honey for MRSA Treatment

  • The chemical properties in honey that are responsible for making it an effective agent for treating MRSA can be credited to the glucose oxidase. The glucose oxidase is an enzyme which is present in the saliva of honey bees. This enzyme combines with the nectar of flowers and converts into honey. The glucose oxydase has antibacterial property which keeps the honey uncontaminated. The enzyme is also responsible for turning glucose into hydrogen peroxide, acting as a disinfectant.
  • The Manuka Honey of New Zealand has strong disinfectant properties because of the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The acid present in the honey is at safe level, a volume of around 1/1000 th of the amount of a bottle of hydrogen peroxide antiseptic.
  • For eradicating a general skin infection you may use any honey but only manuka honey should be used if you are using it to heal an infection caused by MRSA. Manuka honey is to be exclusively used for MRSA treatment because of it constitutes strong antibacterial agents that are absent in any other type of honey. All honey do not have same level of antibacterial properties as the constitution of honey largely depends upon the type of flowers from where the nectar is gathered. The Manuke honey is produced by the nectar taken from the manuka plant found only in New Zealand. There is also some special factor known as the manuka factor in the honey which is studied to be having exceptional ability to kill germs of MRSA.
  • The honey is now considered to be best medicine for topical MRSA treatment. The honey has the ability to penetrate deep into the tissues and healing any kind of soft and deep tissue infection efficiently.
Perhaps the best possible way of MRSA treatment is to by taking up effective steps that would help individuals to control the spread of the infection. The following are some effective steps to stay away from MRSA infection.

MRSA Prevention

  • MRSA spreads by direct contact. So, avoid direct physical contact with patients suffering from MRSA. Wash your hands with good antibacterial soap if you have to attend the infected MRSA wounds.
  • For effective MRSA prevention you are recommended to use only clinically approved antibacterial soap that would be active enough to kill germs of MRSA. A large number of MRSA bacterial germs get transferred from the unclean hands of hospital workers. Even washing of hand with normal soaps is not enough to kill the germs as studies have revealed the presence of live bacteria in the hands for almost 3 hours after hand washing.
  • If any of your family members has been infected with the skin diseases keep him or her isolated with a separate room and equipments for daily use. Always make sure of using disinfectants while cleaning the room so that the environment remains clean and germ free.
  • Always use medicated gloves while attending the patient suffering from MRSA infection. Replace the gloves with a new set if you find the gloves to be visibly dirty.
  • You should initiate to make rest of your family members wear protective garments and ways to dispose them properly after they visit the patient.
  • You should also provide emotional support to the patient to overcome the infection. The willpower to fight against the disease would help the person to get rid of the infection to a great extent.
Make sure that the patient completes the entire dosage of antibiotics even if he or she feels to be cured from the skin infection. Many a times due to improper intake of medicines the bacteria may not be killed completely and rather grows resistant towards the antibiotic if consumed in future when again affected by the bacterial infection.
