Blood Boils
Blood boils are localized infections that are caused due to the interference of bacteria. Through any cut or wound the germs from out side get into the skin openings and cause the development of boils. Boils can be of various types but most of them discharge pus and blood when they get matured. Blood boils are sometimes very painful and are often accompanied by fever. The boils get severe in form as they gradually grow in size. Boils can occur all over the body, especially in the areas like face, underarms, neck, back, chest, groin and such. In fact, the incidence of boils is more in the regions where the sweat glands and oil glands are very active.
Boils mainly occur due to the clogging of the sweat glands and the oil glands. Several times the hair follicles get infected by bacteria leading to formation of boils. Each hair follicle is attached with a muscle underneath the skin. Just above the muscle lies the glands that secret oil called sebum. When the channel starting from the mouth of the hair follicle to the gland gets blocked with accumulated dirt, the incidence of bacteria helps in the formation of blood boils.
Symptoms of Blood Boils
The following are some symptoms of boils that would help you to detect the incidence of the bacterial infection at its initial stages.
Many do not notice it. But the infected area at first becomes itchy with a sense of irritation is felt whenever touched.
Gradually the area becomes reddened accompanied by inflammation. The reddened area becomes slightly swollen too.
As time progresses the bacteria spread the infection. The boil grows in size. Within a week you will find the boil has increased to a size of about 5 to 10 centimeters in diameter. Many have reported to have suffered by huge sized boils that are almost similar to the size of a baseball or a golf ball.
The large reddened lump is the result of the accumulation of red blood cells as well as the development of pus. A thick line of red blood can be seen through the crust like coating of the boils.
The whitish pus that fills up at the center of the boil is the combination of the white blood cells, the bacteria responsible for causing the boils along with protein elements and dead skin tissues. The pus, in fact is the result of the steps taken by the immune system of the body. The lymphocytes or the white blood cells are the ones that are drawn towards the infection in order to attack the foreign bodies that have entered inside the body.
As the boil forms a head the pus starts getting discharged. Not only the pus, but also the red blood flows out of the boil intermittently. The pus is highly contagious and should be dealt with it carefully. Even the blood that comes out of the boils should be cleaned on a regular basis.
